Interesting Magic: Mono-Colour EDH Generals Part 1: Blue

So that hiatus was a thing......don't ask.

But on with the show.

I've recently fallen deeply in lust with casual EDH/Commander games and making quirky decks which use offbeat generals, you know, like every other Magic player who has been playing for 6+ years that doesn't have any Pro Points.

This is some of the funnerer (that is totally a word) mono-blue generals I've dug out from my trawlings of cards.

Now many people look to blue as the go to colour to fuck with people and make them angry so my choices include cards that are either 1: Interesting in their effects, b: annoying as all hell in a fun way or iii: Allow me to say silly things in their descriptions.

Don't expect any beatstick creatures or hardlock control malarky, this is just for funzies to coin a phrase.
Aboshan, Cephalid Emperor is our first general, what with it being alphabetical, and basically it's for 2 reasons. 1: I love shouting NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA SQUIDMAN! (I did just count the na-na-na-nas there as well) and 2: His ability is half useful dispite there only being 15 cephalids 8 of them are half playable in a casual deck. But mostly for the Squidman thing.

Arcum Dagsson is essensially a Tinker without as much abuseability. Throw in lots of 0 cost creaturefacts and drop massive artifacts for shits and giggles. Things like Aladdin's Lamp and Xanthic Statue suddenly become a possiblity to play and with 24 0 or 1 drop Artifact Creatures you've got plenty to feed the machine with.

Cloudhoof Kirin has suprising legs in EDH with there being more than 80 cards with the required keywords and plenty of casual playables I'm thinking a silly mill style deck could acctually work occasionally. Altho table politics would beat you inside out...... Some of the more entertaining possiblities to go with it are recurseable creatures, fetch spells, interesting card draw mechanics, swapping basic lands for tech lands and shit with rampage.

Hakim, Loreweaver can put any 1 of the 110 blue creature enchantment Auras onto himself and then blow them up to put them back on. Possible silliess could include extra card draw and combat tricks, duplication hillarity, cards with silly names, card swap trickery or just simple beatdown.

Heidar, Rimewind Master just because I like the snow mechanic. You have 12 cards you can use. Be greatful.

Higure, the Still Wind. Ninjas are awesome and I challenge anyone to make a remotely competitive EDH deck with the 4 Ninjas that exist in blue. And none of this changeling shit, just go ninja go ninja go.

Patron of the Moon scares the everloving crap out of me. Imagine if that was the representation of your people spiritually. Wouldn't that just shit you up? What I like though is the ability to get it out fast with the, woefully underused, Offering mechanic and then drop lands like a mad bastard. With all the interesting lands out there, which I'll cover in another article, and cards like Treasure Hunt, Landfallers and Horn of Greed can give the deck some explosive tricks if needs be. Oh and it makes playing Leviathan even vaugely possible; which can only be a good thing.

Sahashima the Impostor is the perfect counter to your opponents having better creatures/generals than you; simply become them. The recursion effect is a nice touch also along with being able to just cast and swing if your game is that boring.....

Most abusive EHD decks tend to run a few artifacts at the very least so Thada Adel, Acquisitor can allow you to snaffle all those lovely power rares out of other people's decks, combined with all of blue's unblockable trickery it's a fun way to interact with your opponent's decks and make them mad as hell in the process.

Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar allows you to filter your deck using any one of the 458 methods blue has available to draw cards. Efficient draw + filtering = more games won. I hope......

Sun Quan, Lord of Wu
Troll-a-lol-a-lol a lol-lol-lol.

That about wraps it up for silly blue generals that caught my eye. Next time I'll be covering Black generals and all their nastiness. See you soon.
